Where I grew up, May's arrival was signaled by an abundance of fresh strawberries. I remember my Grandma visiting so she and my mom could spend the morning picking as many strawberries as possible at the nearest farm. They'd spend the rest of the afternoon making batches of their homemade strawberry preserves, which I still consider to be the best preserves I've ever eaten. Even now, it's rare that I'll leave home without a jar.

I love this time of year for so many reasons, and strawberries are one of them. They remind me of the beginning of summer, and though my days are no longer slow and empty, I still look forward to this season full of sunshine, fresh produce, and occasional pool days. Since I'm a sweets gal all the way, I've always been a big fan of fruit. I consider it nature's candy, and it doesn't get much sweeter than when it's freshly picked! So when my friend, Kelsey, asked me to take a little day trip with her to Green Door Gourmet to pick fresh strawberries, I didn't think twice about joining!

Not only are they delicious, but strawberries are also known for being an excellent source of vitamins and minerals, such as:

  • Vitamin C, which supports and strengthens our immune system
  • Manganese for bone strength.
  • Folate, which aids in our cell and tissue growth.
  • Potassium, which helps to prevent high blood pressure.
  • Fiber, which supports a healthy digestive system.

To determine how I could incorporate these fresh berries into recipes, I looked to some of my favorite food bloggers for inspiration and thought I'd share my findings with you:
