5 Signs that You're Ready to Hire a Mindset Coach

If you’re here, I’m going to guess that you know how important self-development is to the success of your business. In fact, most seasoned, successful entrepreneurs will tell you that in order to take your business and goals to the next level, you have to work on yourself first. I’d bet that when it comes to setting goals, you’re no stranger to dreaming big. You’re ambitious, driven, and committed to making it happen. You dream about making an impact and creating a lifestyle that feels fulfilling. You’ve probably seen some success already and while you’re proud of yourself, you also know you’re just scratching the surface.

If you’re currently nodding your head, you’ll probably relate to my past client, L. She came to me earlier this year saying, “Jen, I’ve bought the courses, joined the masterminds, and even worked 1-1 with a coach. I’ve learned a lot and the strategies I gained are helpful, but I still feel stuck. I’ve even created pretty good routines in my life, but I’m not moving forward like I want to. I think I’m getting in my own way.”

I don’t know if you can relate to that feeling of, “I know there’s so much more, but I can’t quite figure out how to tap into it without running myself into the ground.” I know I can. Any time we look at stepping into the next level of our business, personal intentional growth is required. And while I believe that we can do a lot of that on our own, I’m also a big believer in the power of a healthy coaching relationship to expedite that process.

A coach's job is to help you see the missing links, dig deeper than you can (or probably want to) on your own, and implement powerful, individualized shifts in your life and business. There are all different types of coaching and I’ve been asked on more than one occasion, “What exactly is mindset coaching?”

Mindset coaching is a functional way of looking at the entire person, specifically your subconscious programming and how that connects to the actions you’re taking (or not) in your life. This is more of an inside-out process, where instead of trying to change the behavior as our starting point, we look at why the behavior is there in the first place. Mindset coaching dives into the subconscious programming, since that is what runs our lives 95% of the time. To ignore that, which is what many goal setting strategies tend to do, would be a huge miss. We dive into the beliefs, memories, and identities that make up your internal representation of who you are and the world around you, so we can get a clearer understanding of what needs to shift internally, in order for you to make the necessary changes externally.

The results of mindset coaching are amazing because your mindset affects every single aspect of your life, from business to relationships, to overall happiness and satisfaction. They can even lead to major wins like they did with my client, L, I mentioned earlier:

I believe that every single person would benefit from mindset coaching (hence why I became a mindset coach). However, in order to get those benefits (like increased confidence, changing habits and strategies, meeting business goals, or creating more fulfillment in life), you have to be ready for mindset coaching. The work is not easy and it requires a willingness and an openness to face yourself, try new things, and to implement change.

Here are 5 signs that you’re ready to hire a mindset coach:

1. You've tried a lot of different things.

Mindset coaching usually isn’t the first thing people do when they’re trying to meet a goal in business. We typically start with the external: strategies, gaining knowledge, and quick action steps. Which is great. This allows you to take steps within your current comfort zone and build what you can where you are.

If you’re committed to your vision, then you’ve likely already taken action and made an effort to get where you want to go. Maybe you’ve hired other business coaches. Perhaps you’ve bought courses and taken workshops. You've gained a lot of knowledge. And all of this knowledge has prepared you to do the deeper work on your mindset.

There comes a point when you realize that no matter what you do externally, there is an internal component to your success that you can no longer ignore. Once you’ve implemented what you know and are ready to expand your comfort zone, that’s when you are ready for mindset coaching.

2. You know what to do but…

You're either not showing up fully (even though you know what you need to do), or you feel like you're just spinning your wheels and can’t make a decision to move forward. You lack clarity, and trying to find it by looking at other successful people in your industry has been more discouraging than inspiring as of late.

These are signs that there are internal beliefs and thoughts keeping you from making progress. If you can recognize that the challenges you’re facing have to do with your internal landscape, then you are ready for mindset coaching. Can you see the role your beliefs are playing in your challenges?

3. You keep bumping up against an invisible wall.

Maybe you’ve noticed certain patterns within yourself. You’ll do well for a while when your motivation is high, and then something will happen that will cause you to retreat and stop. Procrastination, perfectionism, self sabotage… sound familiar? Mindset coaching can help you address and shift these common self-preservation patterns.

If you’re aware that something is stopping you from moving forward on projects or goals that are important to you, then you’re ready for this coaching. No more blaming circumstances – there is power in being honest with yourself about the ways your thinking is affecting your life.

4. You're starting to think you're the problem.

If you felt the lyrics from Taylor Swift’s new song Anti-Hero, “It's me. Hi. I’m the problem. It’s me,”  deep in your soul, you’re probably ready to do some deep work. You feel like you're standing in the way of yourself, but can't quite figure out how to get out of your own way in order to move forward. Remember, no matter how much internal work we’ve already done, we all have blind spots (aspects of ourselves and our lives that we just can’t see). As the ever so wise Megan from the movie Bridesmaids once said, “You are the problem. And you’re also the solution.”

Taking ownership over our mindset is invaluable because it’s malleable! Instead of shifting blame from the external world or blaming yourself, this is your opportunity to own your power to grow and create what it is you want in your life and business. And mindset coaching can help you do exactly that.

5. You're ready to commit to your goals and get uncomfortable.

As many of my clients have said to me on our initial discovery call, “I’m just getting really sick and tired of myself…” that’s a good sign you’re ready to break out of the comfort zone that feels more stifling than comfortable. This feeling is the catalyst that prepares us to explore your inner world, dig deep and ask hard questions, and embrace the discomfort of new challenges.

This is the most important sign indicating that you’re ready for mindset coaching, because if you aren’t willing to commit then it’s unlikely that mindset coaching can work for you. It requires time and effort to change and grow. It can get uncomfortable. At times, you will have to trade momentary pleasures in order to stay true to the path towards your long-term success. Luckily, you don’t have to do it alone.

If you’re experiencing any of these signs, having a mindset coach is one of the best investments you can make. It is possible to transform your mental blocks and turn your mind into your greatest ally. You have everything it takes to shift your mindset and achieve your dreams.
